From the 21st till 25th of August, 2013 in Jurmala, Latvia will be held 7th international bridge tournament „Riga Invites to Jurmala 2013”.

The tournament will be held in three categories: Invitational pairs, Open teams and Open pairs. Best Latvian bridge players and many players from Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Belorussia, Russia and USA, including 5 times world champion Billy Eisenberg from USA.

The tournament will be translated on BBO; Invitational pairs will be translated in local television with internet stream at www.sportacentrs.com. The tournament is organized by Bridge Support foundation, with a support from Latvian bridge federation, Jurmala city council, Ogre bridge club, Baltic Beach Hotel, Klio Group and Akvedukts Ltd.

Riga Invites to Jurmala ends with Polish-Lithuanian success.

23 teams participated in the Teams tournament. All the results were very exciting: Polish-Lithuanian team ERA (E.Vainikonis, A.Orlovich, P.Zatorski and M.Klukovski) won Latvian-Iceland-Denmark team Eyjafjallajokull (M.Lorencs, J.Bethers, J.Sigurjonsson and D. Ostergaard) by 21:19. Play-off for the 3rd place was won by even less margin: on the last board Latvian-Russian team Ksenia (U.Bethers, A.Imsa, K.Nekrasova un I.Volozenin) won team SweRusIsr (B.Wenneberg, P.Leandersson, A.Erastova and L.Fisher) by one overtrick IMP – 27:26.

Open pair’s tournament was played by 59 pairs. Winners with 63% were M.Klukovski-A.Orlovich, A.Erastova-L.Fisher finished 2nd with 61,7%, B.Gierulski-J.Skrypczak were 3rd with 61,2%. The bid of the day was made by William Eisenberg on the last board of the tournament:

There is a bridge tip to never put down eight card side suit in the dummy, but as I had nine cards in clubs, I was secure of the result! 6♠ bid helped W.Eisenberg-K.Rubins to finish in the 4th place. All details and results you can find at www.rigainvites.lv.
